Working with design means imagining new ways to make rooms more beautiful and more livable. Scavolini knows this full well. The company applies this same attitude even to the idea of the “space” that embraces our large mutual home: the planet Earth. And it does so through responsible use of resources, the use of renewable sources of energy and through the recycling of wastes. Taken as a whole, this behavior has a name: Scavolini Green Mind.
Scavolini has always considered protecting the environment as a priority. In the past this was done with simple actions, today it is done with increasingly significant and effective actions, such as the production of clean Energy through a photovoltaic plant which guarantees 80% of the Energy requirement, to use, when that is not sufficient, of zero impact renewable energy.In addition, for the structures of its kitchens and for many other elements, Scavolini only uses the F**** Ecological Panel, made from post-consumer materials and with the lowest formaldehyde emissions, certified by the Cosmob Qualitas Praemium: Indoor Hi-Quality, certification that certifies the low VOC emission levels (including formaldehyde) by means of continuous routine checks on both the product and the production process.
So many “small gestures” which, taken together, build a better environment.
The consumption of energy resources (particularly electricity) is important for a large-size company such as Scavolini.
For several years now, the company only uses energy from renewable sources in its activities.
To do this, it has installed a large, latest-generation photovoltaic system on top of the roofing of its facilities: this project was inaugurated in October 2011 and is called Sunload.
When Scavolini is unable to use the solar power it has produced itself, it uses green energy for all its activities, produced by renewable sources (COFER certified).
In addition to the above, Scavolini closely monitors all its electricity consumption and uses technologies and implements measures that avoid unnecessary wastage.
What's more, in compliance with the provisions of Italian Leg. Decree 102/2014, the company regularly performs and notifies Enea of an Energy Diagnosis, according to which it sets energy-related improvement targets.
The quality of the air we breathe is a top priority of respect for the environment. We run careful periodic checks of the emissions produced in order to ensure compliance with the limits imposed by law and progressively reduce polluting emissions.
To this end, Scavolini uses the best systems for filtering and cleansing pollutants from the atmospheric emissions, thus steadily reducing pollution.
An example of the ongoing commitment to the improvement of air quality is Scavolini’s decision to adhere to the Impatto Zero? (Zero Impact) strategy at the latest Eurocucina event (the most important trade fair in the industry).
All the carbon dioxide emissions generated by the stand and event organisation were offset through the creation and protection of approximately 30,000 m2 of forest.
This calculation is based on estimated water and electricity consumption levels, the waste produced, the paper and card used and staff travel.
As regards the air you breathe in your home, Scavolini certifies the ultra-low emission levels of its products in relation to Formaldehyde and other volatile compounds (VOC)
Reducing the wastes produced and sent to the dump is one of the goals Scavolini has set itself.
To this purpose, the company carefully separates more than 30 types of different wastes on the inside.
Thanks to this differentiation, Scavolini recycles 90% of the waste material it produces during the manufacturing cycle.
Waste recovery means getting the most out the materials, so that they can be used in new manufacturing processes or for the production of energy. Among the waste materials generated by the manufacturing process, those that account for the greatest quantities are: paper, cardboard, wood, glass, metal and plastic.
For example, paper and cardboard can be used to produce new packaging or recycled paper, wood can be used in the production of panels; and plastics can be used to produce new plastic.
The company pays great attention to its consumption of water resources (which is quite limited) through constant monitoring and taking all steps necessary to prevent waste. Moreover, the water reserves set aside for fire prevention are integrated with the rainwater basin.
Thus, the company implements a form of “natural recycling” which avoids burdening the drinking water supply from the Pesaro city aqueduct.
The company is very careful with regard to its use of print paper; to this end, it has implemented a series of actions aimed at the overall reduction of its consumption, choosing paper and print suppliers with sound environmental credentials.
Scavolini has recently begun a large "digitalisation project" which will save a great deal of paper, in order to reduce the amount used in internal processes.
This project involves transferring most internal and external communication – which up to this point has taken place via paper-based methods – onto digital information systems used for communication from/to the sales network and suppliers (e.g. via intranet and extranet portals).
Moreover, by choosing to print the Product Specifications, Use and Maintenance Manuals and Installation Manuals in-house, the company has reduced its paper consumption by approximately 50%.
This procedure has actually made it possible to print these documents exclusively in the language of the country in which the product is to be released.
Scavolini is the first company in Italy to have subscribed to the "Climate Neutral Printing" project to calculate, reduce and compensate for the CO2 emissions generated by its corporate printing centre.
Indeed, thanks to a "carbon balancing" tool - developed by ClimatePartner and certified by SGS, in compliance with the requirements of the ISO 16759 international Standard – Scavolini was able on the one hand to calculate the carbon dioxide emissions it has generated, reducing them and optimising its printing devices, and on the other to offset these carbon footprints by supporting an environmental project. Specifically, thanks to this “climate neutral printing”, Scavolini contributes towards compensating for more than 181,600 kg of carbon dioxide through reduction certificates obtained from a project for the construction of the Hamzali hydroelectric power plant in Turkey.
The calculation and analysis method used by Canon takes into account electricity, toner and paper consumption and it complies with all the specifications for carbon offsetting set by the ISO 16759:2013 standard, based on the PAS 2050 and ISO TS 14067 standards, which set out specific printing requirements.
